Bristol Eastern High School teachers rallied together to come up with a creative way to get students excited about this years in-school SATs. Not only did Bristol Eastern hold an SAT Pep Rally on Friday the 26th of February, but they created their own parody of Adele’s hit song “Hello.” The parody was written by none other than Janet Kenney, Librarian and sung by Carolyn Kielma, science teacher. The video also features English teachers Dennis Griffin and Ray LeCara, Math teachers Bill Kelly and Pat Hickey, Principal Carly Fortin, and Assistant Principals Michael Higgins and Deborah Tager.
With recent changes to the SATs, the teachers sought out to explain the new rules in an engaging way that the students would remember. The parody starts off with all of the teachers bickering in the conference room about how to handle the new SATs. Kenney quickly turns up the tunes to Adele’s “Hello” and Kielma immediately bursts out into song about her own memories taking the SAT. Fading into scenes of the classroom, each teacher gives pointers based on the new guidelines for their subject. Kielma sings “Please don’t forget you shouldn’t leave any answers incomplete” and reminds students that the SAT is now only 1600 points.
The math teachers chime in singing “Hello, from the math side. You must recall a simpler times. Because we are sorry, your calculator is gone. But don’t worry, it’s only for a few small portions.”
The song finishes up with more tips such as the importance of getting a good nights sleep and having a full belly before the test. The SATs will be held in-school March 5th. Thanks to Bristol Eastern’s faculty, students will be singing the lyrics in their head, remembering that it’s ok to guess now. Kudos to Bristol Eastern Faculty for finding new and innovative ways to get students ready for the SATs and going above and beyond what is expected of them!
