Attention all pizza lovers, the results are in! The Rotary Club hosted their Third Annual Great Pizza Challenge this past Sunday, April 10th, to raise money for a scholarship for one deserving and lucky Bristol Central student involved with the InterACT Club (a junior division of Rotary) at BCHS. With seven different pizza locations serving up a variety of combinations and flavors, participants were able to taste and vote for their personal favorite in ten categories. The competition for the best pizza included Chunky Tomato, Vivaldi’s Pizza, San Gennaro, Corner Pizza, Pavillion Restaurant, Hometown Pizza and Route 6 Pizza. Each restaurant competed for the title of best crust, best sauce, best meat pizza, best pepperoni pizza, best veggie pizza, best cheese pizza, best specialty pizza, best gluten free pizza, president’s choice and the Rotarian (the best pizza voted by The Bristol Rotary Club themselves).
Pizza lovers from all over came out to dig into the pizza flavors of Bristol at The Giamatti Little League Center. Whether you were there and took part in the voting or missed out on the event, Bristol All Heart has the results for you! Corner Pizza came out on top with The Rotarian Award as well as the best gluten free pizza. San Gennaro Brick Oven Pizza won over the Rotary Club President’s taste buds and won the Presidents Prize. Chunky Tomato took home the most titles with four total including best sauce, best crust, best cheese, and best gluten free crust. If you’re looking for a meaty pizza, Pavilion Restaurant is the place to go as they took home the title for both best meat and best pepperoni. Veggie lovers might want to try Route 6 Pizza. Looking for a tasty specialty pizza? Hometown Pizza is your go to place as they won best specialty pizza. Hometown pizza also won best sauce on gluten free pizza. Gluten free lovers must try Corner Pizza, Chunky Tomato and Hometown Pizza as they were the 3 restaurants to take home the gluten free related awards. Congratulations to all of the participating pizza locations that made the Third Annual Great Pizza Challenge a true success (both in the stomachs of Bristolites and the amount of money raised).
Mayor Ken Cockayne shared with The Bristol Press that the event is a “fun time and a great family event. This is what Bristol is about, bringing people together for a good cause and eating like a pig.” Bristol did exactly that! The Rotary Club’s Third Annual Great Pizza Challenge not only helped local pizza joints gain potential customers and fans and satisfied the taste buds of all pizza fans but also brought the community together to raise money for a scholarship for a truly deserving Bristol Central student that embodies the values of the Rotary Club through their involvement in BCHS’s InterACT Club. The day was a tasty and cheesy success. Now the big question is, where are you ordering your next local pizza from?
