The Mum Fest to Enjoy a Fresh Coat of Paint!

August 11, 2016

The Chrysanthemum flower evokes the many vibrant colors of the fall, but this year those colors will be expressed through the Mum Festival Arts Walk. Led by the Bristol Art Squad, numerous community artists will be setup on festival grounds to take part in the Saturday & Sunday festival portion of the big Mum Fest weekend (Sept 22-25).

The Arts Walk will feature everything from painters, to water colorists, to photographers, musicians, plus children’s programming like pumpkin painting with hundreds of pumpkins donated by the generosity of Bristol Farmer’s Market stalwart Gresczyk Farm.

“When people think of the Mum Festival, they think of the fall season and naturally fall is a colorful time in New England,” said Festival Chair Mark Walerysiak Jr. “With the reloading of the Festival we thought it only made sense to add as much color as we could all the way around, so just as the leaves turn fiery colors, so will we.”

Art Squad Captain Ginger Grant said the Art Squad is beyond excited to be showcasing local artists while adding major cultural flair to this year’s Mum Fest.

“It’s going to be tremendous. We encourage all to stop by and watch some live painting, get your photo taken by local photographer Cat Boyce, and bring your kids to paint their own pumpkin,” said Grant. “Artisan gifts and crafts will also be available for purchase too, a perfect chance to start your holiday shopping early!”

Local Artist and fellow Art Squad Captain Suzanne Godau added, “Come experience for yourself the beauty, color and movement created by the artists of the Art Walk. You will not be disappointed as we have a diversity of artists showcasing many different styles, bursting with vibrancy, making Bristol a truly electric community!”

The Arts Walk is part of a reloading of the Mum Festival which is being spearheaded by the All Heart “Mum Squad” and powered by the partnership between Bristol All Heart (via the Bristol Chamber of Commerce) and The Bristol Exchange Club.

“There is a buzz about what we’re building,” said Mum Squad Captain Jack Ferraro. “We can’t spill all the magic yet, but it’s going to be a memorable and fun experience, and things like the Arts Walk really add to the festival. We can’t wait to release more exciting information as it solidifies. Until then, Mum’s the Word!”
