J.H. Session & Son Building Remediation and Future Development
Remediation is underway at the J.H. Sessions & Son building on Riverside Avenue in preparation for future workforce housing development.
After many years of hard work and planning by several administrations and City staff, and through a grant from the State of Connecticut, remediation at the J.H. Sessions & Son building is finally taking place. The “Sessions Building” at 273 Riverside Avenue is a 80,000 square foot, abandoned mill building that is a brownfield. The site has not produced taxes in decades. The City secured $2 million in State grant funds to clean the contamination from the site (both inside and outside the building) as a first step towards the building’s redevelopment which will put it back on the tax rolls and provide workforce housing for the community.
