On Wednesday, May 9, professionals involved in HIV/AIDS care are invited to attend the annual HIV Educational Forum sponsored by Bristol Mayor’s Task Force on HIV/AIDS.
This professional education event will feature the following topics and speakers. Nilda Fernandez and Danielle Warren Diaz from the University of Connecticut will present on HIV and Health Disparities. Progression and Status of Stigma Regarding HIV will be offered as a panel discussion with Karina Danvers from the Connecticut AIDS Education Training Center at Yale with additional speakers. Oral Manifestations of HIV will be covered by Dr. Kevin Hall, a dentist from the Hartford Gay and Lesbian Health Collective and Dr. Zane Saul, a Yale professor and infectious disease physician at Bridgeport Hospital will discuss the Evolution of HIV.
In 2015, in the greater Hartford area, 3,131 people were living with HIV, 66% men and 34% women. 99 new cases were diagnosed in this area in 2015 (https://aidsvu.org/state/connecticut/hartford/). The Forum is being held in the ground floor conference rooms at Bristol Public Library at 5 High St. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the day will end at 3 p.m. A light breakfast and catered lunch will be provided. Tickets are $25 and include meals. Applications have been submitted for CCB and NASW continuing education credits.
The Bristol Mayor’s Task Force on HIV/AIDS was formed twenty-seven years ago and continues to have representative membership from Bristol individuals and agencies. The group meets monthly and plans five events per year.
