Understanding the current situation in Ukraine requires understanding Ukraine’s history and complex relationship with Russia. This visually rich presentation by Damien Cregeau will explore 150 years of the history between Ukraine and Russia, beginning with definition of Europe, as well as central versus eastern Europe and ending with a brief analysis of the 2022 invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces.
Tickets for this special presentation will be $5 per person (both members and nonmembers) and all proceeds will be donated to CARE’s Ukraine Crisis Fund which provides aid to those affected by the war, including food, water, hygiene kits, support services and direct cash assistance.
Damien Cregeau is an independent historian from Connecticut and is also a nationally recognized and award-winning scholar of early American history. He has been published dozens of times in many journals and magazines and travelled to East-Central Europe for two weeks in 2008, including Hungary, Slovakia and Ukraine. He gave several presentations on 19th and 20th century Ukrainian-Russian history in 2014 following the Russian invasions of Crimea and southeastern Ukraine earlier that year.
