Heartbeat: A Native American Musical Experience

With Author, Musician, Photographer, Teacher and Radio Host Craig Harris of Drum Away the Blues. A multimedia and participatory adult program on American Indian music and America’s musical roots. American Indian performers and the struggles of their people have influenced most, if not all, forms of contemporary music. Elvis Presley had maternal relatives who were Cherokee Indian. So did legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix. Country singer Hank Williams had Muskogee Creek and Cherokee ancestry.
Craig Harris is a musician, teacher, author, photographer, and now host of The Craig Harris Show on Bluegrass Country WAMU, 88.5FM hd2 in Washington, DC. Harris is the author of several books and articles on music, including Heartbeat, Warble and the Electric Powwow: American Indian Music. Harris holds a Master’s degree in Education.
